Thorium Entertainment has announced that it will bring its action adventure Roguelike UnderMine to Nintendo Switch next month.
The game has been downloaded 600,000 times on Steam and Xbox Game Pass, placing you in the role of a ‘foolish farmer’ who will stop at nothing to find their fortune in a dark and dangerous mine.
This is an interesting premise and all the more appealing because the creators of UnderMine clearly owe a small debt to the classic 2D. Zelda series, at least as far as the presentation is concerned.
As you can see in the trailer, some of the characters play Link-style outfits, they display a familiar attitude when collecting important items, inflating walls with bombs and even a similar animation when they fall into a hole. It’s all done with tongue firm of course, and the presentation in general looks fantastic. The loot-grabbing gameplay and roguelike elements make it stand out at Nintendo’s famous series, even if it has technical and visual similarities.
Derek Johnson, founder of Thorium Entertainment, had this to say about the news:
“Ever since we released our first Early Access version, the question our fans have been constantly asking is, ‘When is it coming to Switch? ‘It’s a dream to release a game on a Nintendo platform, and we’re looking forward to new fans joining the horde in February! ”
UnderMine currently has a 9/10 rating on Steam, which certainly promises well. Our friends at Eurogamer practically entered into the Steam version, describing it as ‘a distilled version of Zelda on SNES … if Zelda was confined to a dungeon’. It launches on Thursday, February 11th on Switch and costs $ 19.99.
