It was a rough game for Team Fluff.
The winners of the 2021 Puppy Bowl won their coveted Lombarky trophy: Team Ruff, the minor consecutive victories of opponents Team Fluff, won the 17th annual contest of adoptive puppies and dogs.
Seventy pooches took part in this year’s “cutest game ever played”, which was selected by longtime “rufferee” Dan Schachner.
Here’s a summary of the resounding rumble.
Team Ruff’s Archer, an American Staffordshire Terrier, started the game wildly with a penalty kick for ‘illegal use of the goal posts’ – and ripped the goal post off the opposing team.
Ruff’s Muffin, a terrier mix, achieved the team’s first attack after a severe attack from the hearing – impaired terrier Marshall – who is being trained to be a support puppet for nurses in the front line of the COVID pandemic and an early contender on Most Valuable Pup was.
Meanwhile, Chow Chow mix Chunky Monkey has been penalized for excessive drowsiness after his slumber along the sideline. Cute, but no cigar. Yet Twitter went wild with the most valuable temper the Chunk himself served.
Later in the first quarter, a cruel tug of war took place between Muffin and Marshall, while the nervous Nelly Gus in Fluff’s team needed a bit of “pup” conversation to get his head in the game. Unfortunately, Marshall crossed the goal line for the first attack of a Team Fluff. Very Good Boy Milky Way also contributed to Fluff’s score in the first quarter. Paulie, a little restless, barked right back and won an attack for Ruff. Teammate Mix Hashbrown drew the game 21-21 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Great Pyrenees mix misled Duke by the team’s infallible foul, Fluff, which gave the Golden Retriever Beliveau the opening for an attack, which raised his team 35-21 to another TD of the terrier bulldog mix Sonic.
Ruff’s Fletcher, a hearing – impaired brackish mixer, got another jubilant attack, with Ruff’s first field goal scored by Tank, an adorable Rottweiler / boxer, at the end of the first half. Team Fluff was the best boss, no thanks to Fluff’s Erica, a border collie mix who decided to take it easy in a nice quiet corner of the stadium.
The little ones got some rest during the rest time show, performed by a very stimulated group of kittens, led by DJ Grand Master Scratch on the turntables.
At the start of the third quarter, Team Fluff’s energy ball, Fozzie, was hit with a penalty kick for having the puppy pancake. But the Norwegian Elkhound mix still seemed to fly – thanks to a special treat at Harlem’s Doggie Day Spa before the big event. Later, Ruff’s Apollo Dwight gave a clear path to the end zone and gave Ruff a three-point lead. The victory did not last long, when Fluff’s Beliveau scored again after a rather aggressive tackle in the water.
In the last term, Jett, a two-legged lab with its own wagon with a wheel, made a girl debut and had an attack for Team Fluff, thanks to an assistant from Jay / Lab.
American Staffordshire Terrier / Dutch shepherd Paulie joined the two-touchdown club for team Ruff, but the team could not keep up with the good boys. Beliveau – who honestly looked a bit big for a puppy – scored his fourth attempt for Fluff.
To make the game a real leg-biter, Muffin scored another TD for Ruff, leaving the score at 66-69 with less than a minute left.
But Team Ruff scraped its way to a win for Team Ruff thanks to Big Boss Paulie of New York. After team wins from Team Fluff in recent years, Team Ruff barked its way to Legend-Hood with a 73-69 final score.
Let’s not forget that the game’s MVP – Marshall, our hearing – impaired Boston Terrier – won the acclaimed title. Extra treats for Marshall!
The big match was accompanied by a series of animal lovers of celebrities: the best pals Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg, who set the table snacks and drinks for the back table, were presented. DO-double-G of course brought the gin and juice.
First Lady Jill Biden was accompanied by her lifeguard German shepherds Champ and Major Biden, delivered a PSA on the adoption of dogs – and also wore masks. Actress Kristen Bell joined the action and promoted the rescue puppet Java for a day.
But the real winners of the contest were the 70 families who brought home the Puppy Bowl champions. According to Animal Planet, every last dog in each Puppy Bowl is adopted by the time the program is presented.
