UNC-Virginia: Roy Williams Postgame

There are many aspects of the game plan to defeat the disciplined Virginia program – sharp and fast ball movement, patient defense, control of the boards, strong finishing on the edge – but above all make the openings earned against the stingy Cavs defense. UNC did not do so on Saturday night, so UNC lost.

“If you do not make blows, it’s a long, long night,” Roy Williams lamented after the 60-48 defeat at John Paul Jones Arena.

That it was indeed for the Tar Heels, who fell 21-4 behind and never got closer than seven points the rest of the way. North Carolina shot 35 percent from the field and 13 percent from three. No Tar Heel provided double digits for the first time since 1966.
