Daily Covid-19 Minute: CDC Travel GuidelinesThe CDC now says people who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 can travel safely within the United States. The agency now has evidence that people who have been fully vaccinated are less likely to get Covid-19 and spread it to others. Vaccinated travelers do not need to be tested for covid before or after the trip and do not need to quarantine themselves when they return home. Some precautions are still in place and according to the CDC, even vaccinated people should wear a mask, stay six feet away from others and often wash their hands. This also applies to people who have been fully vaccinated. That means it’s been two weeks since your second shot for Pfizer and Moderna, or two weeks since you shot Johnson & Johnson.
Eye On Detroit – The CongregationThe existing structure was built in 1924 after a small chapel for the congregation of the St. Luke’s Evangelical Church had a fire in 1917 and burned to the ground. It took a number of years after the fire before the congregation received funding due to the high prices during the war period. Eventually, the property fell into the hands of the Home Mission Board and Church Extension Society of the United Lutheran Church in America. From there, they worked to fund the church structure that stands here today. It was built by Spier and Gehrke Architects to become the English Lutheran Church. This church is the true test of time. One church north of the outbreak of the 1967 rebellion, the church remained intact and undisturbed. At some point between the fifties and sixties, the original stained glass window was removed and blocked. The purpose of the restoration and refurbishment of the structure was to install a modern interpretation of what was there. The new feature window, installed in early 2020, is a stainless steel piece of art built by The Nordin Brothers of Detroit. While the interior of the building remained structurally the same, The Congregation focused on preserving the integrity, historical detail and finish of the space. Great efforts have been made to restore all original double-colored windows, the original maple floor and a 150-year-old organ, to ensure that the interior retains its original feel of a church. The organ, an important focal point of the interior, originally built around 1870 by Samuel Russell Warren for St Thomas Belleville, Ontario and rebuilt by Casavant in the early 1900s, still stands high in the northwest corner of the main room . It moved to this Detroit building somewhere in the 1940s or 1950s.
