UFC’s Irwin Rivera arrested, charged with attempted murder

UFC fighter Irwin Rivera was reportedly arrested on Monday in Boynton Beach, Florida, on two charges of attempted murder.

According to a police report shared on social media by MyMMANewsRivera, 31, told Boynton Beach police officers that he “believed he killed both of his sisters and said he did it because it was his goal, which was said by a higher power.”

Two women, aged 22 and 33, were found with multiple stab wounds in his residence. Both women were transported to a hospital, according to ESPN.

One of the women told officers they stayed with Rivera that night and woke up and “stabbed him repeatedly”, according to the police report. After a struggle, one of the women, whose names were redirected from the report, was able to call the police.

Officers contacted Rivera, who fled the scene, around 7 a.m., to which he “spontaneously” said, “I killed my sisters,” according to the police report. In an affidavit, he admitted beating his sisters with a brass knife.

The UFC said in a statement to ESPN that it was investigating the “extremely worrying” incident.

Rivera, who has competed with the UFC three times in 2020 and is 10-6 as a professional mixed martial artist, last competed in the quarterfinals on September 19 when he lost a split decision to Andre Ewell.
