It’s no secret that UFC president Dana White has a bad relationship with former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who is rarely excluded from the “biggest of all time” conversations among MMA fans and media.
Probably because “Rush” runs to the beat of his own drum.
That may explain why White is in such a hurry to lure the reigning queen Kamaru Usman to a pinnacle among all the greats, at least in his current weight class, just days from the “Nigerian nightmare”‘s return to action.
“Usman is tied with GSP for consecutive UFC wins at 12,” White told TMZ. ‘If he wins this weekend, he breaks GSP’s record for 13. He’s in a winning streak with 16 fights. This man has not lost in seven years. He has not lost since 2013. If he can get through Gilbert Burns on Saturday night, which is going to be a tough fight, he’s a man who will just keep grinding, and one day we’ll all wake up and go ‘Oh woe’ and we’ll all talk about BOK status for this man. ‘
Or we could talk about another incensed bookie if opponent Gilbert Burns could turn the division upside down this weekend (Sat. February 13, 2021) in the main event of the UFC 258 pay-per-view (PPV) held in the APEX Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
‘Durinho’ was originally booked as ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ in July last year.
If Usman, 33, wants to surpass St-Pierre in the memories of fickle battle supporters, he may have to venture outside his comfort zone. ‘Rush’ has returned from a four-year dismissal to win the then-middleweight title, Michael Bisping, in 2017, and break his promise along the way.
The journey for Usman continues this weekend in ‘Sin City’.
