The review recommends that a Rapid Reaction Force be ready at the Capitol full-time and that the U.S. Capitol Police Chief not be required to obtain approval from the Police Board or Sergeant on Arms to request the Rapid Reaction Force. aimed at resolving issues relating to the promotion of the National Guard as at 6 January.
In addition, the survey includes more than 1,000 U.S. police officers in the Capitol to protect lawmakers while in Washington, DC, and back in their homelands, and to install retractable fences around the Capitol complex.
Rep. Tim Ryan told CNN on Thursday that he believes Honoré “hits the nail on the head” with his recommendations.
“It’s very comprehensive. It’s about intelligence. It’s about information flow. It’s about training, training of intelligence officers. The hardening of the Capitol. The districts are being covered,” he said.
“It’s going to take a while to put all this into action, but that was as far as I could see,” Ryan added.
In January, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ordered Honoré to conduct an independent review of security present in the Capitol after a tampered Trump building violated the building.
Draft recommendations, first reported by CNN last week, included improvements to the physical security infrastructure around the complex, better communications resources for officers and additional staff to strengthen a force overwhelmed by rioters last month.
The addition of more than 1,000 Capitol police officers – at a cost of about $ 100 million – would, according to the sources, include about 350 officers and extensive personnel management in regional offices, with knowledge of the draft recommendations.
The investigation found that the power should be partially expanded to meet the members’ security needs when they return home, one of the sources who was aware of the findings told CNN last week.
