Two U.S. sails that require COVID-19 vaccinations before boarding

Two U.S. crossroads require proof of coronavirus vaccinations before passengers can board from July.

The requirements set forth by American Queen Steamboat Company and Victory Cruise Lines, is part of the guidelines called ‘SafeCruise’ that the companies have set up to keep passengers and staff safe during their travels.

“Vaccination requirements for both our guests and the crew are the wisest next step to ensure we provide the safest travel experience possible,” John Wagoner, CEO and founder of American Queen Steamboat Company, told Condé Nast Traveler.

Both companies’ guidelines stipulate that passengers and crew must be vaccinated against the coronavirus from 1 July in order to travel.

The industry suffered a setback as a result of the pandemic, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) halted flights from March to October last year.

Both companies will begin shipping in April, with coronavirus precautions such as masks and temperature controls, though the vaccine mandate will begin in July.

The companies said they are not worried about the requirement as many of their customers are older and eligible for the vaccine. The crew is also eligible for the vaccine under the CDC’s Phase 1c priority system, as they are employees of a transport company, both companies said, reports Condé Nast Traveler.

The US has focused on vaccinating two of its most vulnerable populations – the elderly and health workers – since the vaccines Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech were approved.

The Biden government has promised to deliver 100 million shots within the first 100 days of the presidential term, as it increases efforts to distribute the vaccine.
