Two suspects arrested after 5 people were injured in a shooting outside an Alabama bar

Police responded to a call in downtown Tuscaloosa at 2:47 a.m. after shots were fired at a parking lot in Temerson Square, the Tuscaloosa police station said in a news release.

Police said the shooting took place outside Roxy’s Nightclub in the 2300 block of Fourth Street.

After investigating video surveillance and witness statements, they determined that Joe Nathan Brothers Jr. (22) and Joshua Marquese Coston (23) were the initial attackers in the shooting, Tuscaloosa police officer Jack Kennedy said in a statement.

Both men are charged with four counts of attempted murder, one count of shooting in an occupied building, three counts of shooting in an unoccupied building and three counts of shooting in an unoccupied vehicle.

CNN could not determine whether Brothers and Coston have attorneys. Kennedy said lawyers would first be assigned to the judges before going to court, which would be early Monday.

Police say one suspect was injured

Brothers and Coston shot at a group “with whom they had an argument earlier just outside Roxy’s Bar,” Kennedy said.

“After the two suspects fired the gun, a shot was fired at the suspects in self-defense,” which led to Coston being beaten, he added.

Five people, including Coston, were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

Coston “is in custody and is being treated in a safe unknown medical facility for his injuries” and will be discussed in jail after treatment, the statement said.

“The other four victims are being treated for their injuries,” which apparently is not life-threatening, Kennedy said. “The investigation is continuing and other persons may also be charged in the future.”
