Twitter wants you to pay people to read their social media posts

Social media giant Twitter has begun exploring new products, including a ‘Super Follow’ feature that allows users to charge their followers for accessing premium tweets.

CNET reports that Twitter has begun exploring a number of new products, including a ‘Super Follow’ feature that allows creators to access premium posts for a fee, as well as groups that make it easier to talk about interests.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said on Thursday during the company’s first virtual analyst day: “We’re focused on public discourse as a use case and there will be various formats attached to it.”

Super Follow and Bounce is a new key product that Twitter is focusing on. The features allow creators and publishers on Twitter to charge a monthly subscription fee to view exclusive content or newsletters.

Dantley Davis, head of the company’s design and research industry, said that products funded by creators motivate them to continue creating great content that appeals to their audience. The platform plans to launch the Super Follow product this year.

Twitter has also made efforts to make it easier for users to find new topics and interests. Twitter plans to tackle Facebook groups with a new product call Communities that enable people to join conversations is a specific topic.

“It can feel deaf today to talk about a hobby or interest amid the intense global public debate over the pandemic,” said Kayvon Beykpour, product head of Twitter. As a result, Twitter is working on a solution by creating a way for users to chat about their interests in small groups.
