Twitter responds to Rockets rookie KJ Martin blocking Rudy Gobert on the sidelines

Although he is only 6 feet-6, Houston Rockets rookie KJ Martin quickly became known for his home defense and shooting blocking presence.

In January, Houston’s athletic young prospect Boban Marjanović turned down Dallas center, who is 7 inches tall. On Friday, he did the same to 7-foot Rudy Gobert, an All-Star with the Utah Jazz. It’s fitting that Twitter users went wild when he pulled it off. See below for a compilation of the best social media responses.

Martin is the son of Kenyon Martin, a 15-year-old NBA veteran and the overall no. 1 from the 2000 draft. As such, the younger Martin is still learning at a professional level. But like 20-year-old Kevin Porter Jr., his development gives fans of the struggling Rockets something to look forward to in what otherwise feels like a lost season. Houston (11-24) drew 14 losing shots on Friday, which is their longest inning since 2000.

Martin has averaged 17.5 points, 11.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 31.5 minutes per game in recent weeks during a G-League round with Houston’s affiliated club, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. As the play-off hope of the parent team becomes extremely remote, its development should become a clear priority as the 2020-21 season progresses.
