Twitter announced Friday that it will permanently suspend accounts dedicated to sharing content related to the QAnon conspiracy theory.

As part of this purge, the company suspended the accounts of Michael Flynn and Sidney Powell, supporters of President Donald Trump.

“The accounts have been suspended in accordance with our policy on Coordinated Harmful Activity,” the company said in a statement to NBC News. “We were clear that we would take strong action on conduct that could have the potential to cause harm online, and given the renewed potential for violence surrounding this type of conduct in the coming days, our accounts will be permanently excluded from the QAnon section. -contents. “

Flynn and Powell are active in the QAnon community. Twitter also suspended the account of Ron Watkins, who is the administrator of the website 8kun, formerly known as 8chan.

The suspensions come Wednesday in the wake of the uprising at the U.S. Capitol.

Twitter’s Coordinated policy on harmful activities do not allow groups that cause harm on Twitter or in the real world.

Twitter took action against thousands of QAnon-related accounts earlier in July 2020. Although some accounts involved in the QAnon movement are difficult to find, Flynn was a prominent political actor, and he took an oath in QAnon in July, making a video publicly available.
