Twitch voters choose a lizard as the new PogChamp

Twitch viewers have chosen a new PogChamp. On Friday, KomodoHype, a meme-worthy Komodo dragon, became the new face of the PogChamp emote after a month-long trial period. The streaming company has the result of the election on Twitter.

Twitch got rid of the original PogChamp emote, Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez used his social media accounts to encourage civil unrest during the riot at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6th. Twitch dropped Gootecks’ emote and since then, there has not been a standard PogChamp emote for the site.

People responded with all sorts of ideas to replace the emote. Eventually, Twitch establishes a spinning PogChamp – a new face every day – and then at the end an election for a new, permanent face. The PogChamp of the day was meant to celebrate the diversity of streamers on Twitch, but ultimately resulted in harassment for many streamers.

The vote took place on February 12 via an official Twitch stream. Whether it catches on is up to the fans, but the lizard will henceforth be the standard face of the emote on Twitch.
