One of Sony PlayStation’s most recognizable franchises could soon break into your TV and explode. Twisted Metal, the chaotic sci-fi demolition derby game, is adapted for the small screen of the authors of the Dead pool movies, and one of the authors of Cobra Kai.

The idea for a Twisted Metal The program began writing in 2019, and now writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Dead pool, Zombieland) with Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai) to crack the case. Reese and Wernick are going to executive production with Smith, who will write and showrun.

According to Variety, who made the news, follows the story ” an outsider with a mouth who offers a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package about a post-apocalyptic desert. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he will encounter vicious looters who drive vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a disturbed clown … who is driving an all-too-famous ice cream truck, which fans of the game will be known as Sweet Tooth. Sal Arnett’s Electric Avenue production company is also on board.

Twisted Metal debuted in 1995 with the release of the first PlayStation and has been an important aspect of the platform ever since. Although each game has its own variation on the story, the main game is usually a derby demolition derby between all sorts of themed vehicles and driven by people with unique, sinister personalities. But instead of just hitting each other, the vehicles have guns and bombs and all sorts of destructive abilities. The last vehicle standing wins.

“We love Twisted Metal in all his twisted insanity, “Glenn Adilman, executive vice president of comedy development for Sony Pictures Television, told Variety.” Michael Jonathan Smith knocked it out of the park with an action-packed, brilliantly funny adaptation and we are grateful for the support of Rhett, Paul, Will and our friends at PlayStation. “

There’s no word on a timeline for the show or any tips for casting (Variety points out that while Arnett may utter Sweet Tooth, there’s no similarity yet), but if your content is popping up like Truckasaurus, you would that it will end up somewhere sooner than later.
