Five lawyers left former President Donald Trump’s indictment team just days before his Senate hearing, CNN reported Saturday night.
After disagreements over the defense strategy, the departure apparently took place.
Trump wants his legal team to focus on false allegations that the election was stolen from him, rather than on whether it is legal to condemn a president who is no longer in office, reports CNN and the New York Times, citing well-known sources. with the case. Former Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller responded to news of his departure on Saturday, tweet that the legal team has not yet been finalized.
“We have done a lot of work but have not made a final decision on our legal team that will be taken soon,” he said.
CNN has identified the deceased attorneys as Butch Bowers, Deborah Barbier, Johnny Gasser and Greg Harris of South Carolina, and Josh Howard of North Carolina. According to the Associated Press, Bowers and Barbier separated from the defense team in a ‘mutual decision’, referring to a person familiar with the situation.
The House of Representatives charged Trump with a 232-197 vote on Jan. 13, on a charge that he incited an uprising at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
