Trump’s team was ecstatic with the result, as its members posed for photos and joked with each other.

Michael van der Veen, a lawyer for Trump, punched another member of the team and said, “We’re going to Disney World,” according to the Senate’s pool reporter on Saturday, Christa Hayes, of USA Today.

Trump was acquitted after the five-day Senate hearing in a 57-43 vote. Sixty-seven votes were needed to secure a conviction, requiring a two-thirds vote. Seven Republicans, along with every Democrat in the House, pleaded guilty to Trump.

Trump has been indicted by the House for inciting the crowd that attacked the Capitol on January 6th.

His lawyers argued that his pre-election remarks were protected by the First Amendment and that it was not possible to convict a former president who could not be removed from office.

Democratic indictments have argued that it is possible to convict a former president and that it would lead to a vote to prevent Trump from running for office.
