Trump Withuisgenoot linked to Proud Boys for riot via cellphone data

A person associated with the Trump White House communicated with a member of the Proud Boys in the days before the January 6 uprising, reports The New York Times.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) used data from location, cellular and call records to make the connection between the unnamed person and the extraordinary right-wing group.

The Times also noted that none of the telephone data showed any connection between rioters and members of Congress on January 6. In the aftermath of the uprising, Democrats claimed Republican lawmakers were involved in the incident, which led to the Speaker of the House. The names of the parties involved in the phone call between the White House and the Proud Boys have not been released, and the FBI does not know exactly what was discussed during the phone call, according to The Times.

Following the January 6 riots, Stone again became the subject of an investigation by the Department of Justice and the FBI.

Stone had earlier claimed he was not involved in the uprising, although he was in Washington DC that day.

“I had no prior knowledge of the riot at the Capitol,” he told ABC last month.

Stone has admitted in the past that he had ties to the group’s leader, Enrique Tarrio, who has been charged with his involvement in the riot.

The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
