Former President Donald Trump has said he is “very precisely” considering running a 2024 presidential election, but claims he could not talk about it for legal reasons.

“I say this: I’m looking at it very seriously, except seriously. From a legal standpoint, I do not want to talk about it yet,” Trump told Fox News on Monday when asked about a potential 2024 run.

Trump remains very influential within the Republican Party and is likely to win the support of several senior GOP lawmakers if he seeks the Republican nomination for 2024.

He repeatedly suggested he could run again in 2024, telling the audience at the right-wing Conservative political action conference in February: ‘I may even decide to beat them a third time’, a nod to his false claim that he re-election to the White House last year.

“I stand before you today to declare that the incredible journey we began four years ago is far from over,” he told the audience.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and leading Republican Nikki Haley, who is regularly tipped off for her own 2024 run, are among those who have said they will support Trump if he secures the 2024 GOP nomination again.

McConnell said in February that he would “absolutely” support Trump again if he won the GOP nomination in 2024, despite condemning the former president in January as “practically and morally responsible” for the Capitol uprising.

Trump is likely to face the challenge of nominating other GOP lawmakers whose influence and popularity will increase if he were to seek a race. These include Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose opposition to the closure measures in his state has made him popular with conservative donors.

Nikki Haley, the former UN ambassador, said she would not run in 2024 if Trump decided.

Trump’s niece Mary told Insider last month that her uncle would only pretend to have elected him president to make more money from his supporters.

“It’s important to remember that Donald could not care less about politics, he could not care less about this country, he could not care less about the Republicans,” said Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist who last year ‘ published an all-public. book about her family, told Insider.

“It’s about maintaining the grip on power. He thinks on a certain level it will allow him to continue with impunity, as he has done all his life, and it will also enable him to make money from people. to keep down, “she said.
