Supporters of former President Donald Trump have stated they will boycott Coca-Cola after the company said it opposed Georgia’s new law.
Trump, who reportedly had a Diet Coke button installed in his Oval Office desk, called on his supporters to boycott all the ‘wake-up call companies involved in free and fair elections’.
The former president named Coca-Cola, along with Delta, and the MLB among the organizations Republicans should give.
His statement on April 1 comes after James Quincey, CEO of Coca-Cola, announced earlier in the day that the company is in opposition to the newly approved voting legislation in Georgia.
Quincey said in the statement: “We want to be crystal clear and unequivocally declare that we are disappointed with the outcome of Georgia’s voting legislation.”
He later added: “In addition, our focus now is on supporting federal legislation that protects access to suffrage and addresses the oppression of voters across the country. We all have a duty to protect everyone’s suffrage and we will continue to do so. stands for what is right in Georgia and across the US “
Democrats have strongly criticized the bill, with President Joe Biden calling it “Jim Crow in the 21st Century” and “a blatant attack on the Constitution.”
They add that legislation makes the absence of votes more difficult and creates further restrictions, such as offering water to people waiting in line, which is usually longer in more populated areas.
This comes after the Democrats managed to win two important Senate contests earlier this year, which could help win evenly divided votes in the chamber.
But Republicans who support the bill claim it makes the election fairer and can prevent the possibility of voter fraud.
The Coca-Cola intervention also sparked a massive reaction from Trump loyalists who announced on social media that they would follow his lead and boycott the company.
One Trump supporter with more than 13,700 supporters posted: “Morning America: it’s time for the MAGA nation to stand with President Trump and completely boycott the vigilant anti-American MLB and Coca-Cola corporations.
“We need to send a message to these companies. Wake up, go break.”
Retired Colonel Rob Maness hated Delta Airlines, which also condemned Georgia’s new law, while asking if ‘wokeacola’ would be targeted by Republicans next time.
Another commenter added: “Coca-Cola let me make it very clear #wokeacola. I’ll switch to Pepsi you left for a company.”
Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union, also announced in a statement on social media that he would boycott Coke and drink Pepsi instead.
When he got on Twitter, he said, “To switch to Diet Pepsi in the Schlapp House. To have to prove who you should vote for is called democracy. To allow coordinated illegal voting is called totalitarianism.”
