Klein’s arrest is the first known case of one of Trump’s political appointments facing criminal charges in connection with the riot. It comes as some right-wingers try to shift Trump’s blame for the uprising.
Trump has been charged with inciting riots, but the Senate eventually voted 53-47 to acquit him.

The first news about Klein’s arrest has been reported by Politico. According to the newspaper, he was arrested in Virginia.
According to a financial disclosure published by ProPublica, Klein was appointed as a special assistant in the State Department on January 22, 2017. Prior to his appointment, he worked on Trump’s 2016 campaign and reportedly earned $ 15,000 in revenue.
In the state department, Klein was a special assistant in the Bureau for Western Hemisphere Affairs at the state department and was a political appointee, Schedule C, reports Politico.
Klein’s mother, Cecilia, said in a telephone interview with Politico that she had discussed the events with her son on January 6 and confirmed that he was in Washington DC that day.
She told Politico that she got the impression that her son did not enter the Capitol, but could not remember whether he specifically denied it.
