Trump should be denied intelligence briefings, Schiff says

“With this simple act – which is only the new president’s privilege – Joe Biden can mitigate one aspect of the potential national security risk that Donald Trump, a private citizen, poses,” Gordon wrote.

Gordon said that especially because Trump intends to stay in politics, he “could be extremely vulnerable to bad actors with a bad intention.”

Former presidents usually receive routine briefings and access to classified information after leaving office.

Schiff added that he believes U.S. allies withheld information from the Trump administration because “they did not trust the president” to protect intelligence, which in turn “makes us less secure.”

However, Biden’s new chief of staff Ron Klain said the new administration would first hear from “our intelligence staff” and their recommendations on sharing intelligence before making a decision on it.

“We will definitely look for a recommendation from the intelligence professionals in the Biden administration,” once confirmed, Klain said on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday.
