Trump raises funds ahead of CPAC speech

Trump spokesman Jason Miller confirmed on Saturday that the former president is considering forming a super PAC that can raise unlimited amounts of money from virtually any source and have no restriction on spending.

The committee “could be a brand new entity” or a new version of “America First,” an existing super-PAC launched while Trump was in office, Miller told CNN’s Jim Acosta. Politico earlier reported Trump’s interest in continuing with a super PAC.

Trump also made several changes to his growing fundraising apparatus on Saturday. In his applications to the Federal Election Commission, he has transformed both his presidential campaign committee, Donald J. Trump as president, and his leadership PAC, Save America, into two political action committees that can support other candidates for their office. Trump’s campaign committee has become the Make America Great Again PAC – or MAGA PAC.

The new committees are now linked by a joint fundraising agreement that, according to Miller, will ‘make fundraising more efficient’. Collective fundraising agreements generally allow politicians to get a single, larger check from a donor and then split the money among different committees.

Trump has already amassed millions of dollars in contributions since he created Save America after the November election and bombarded his supporters with false claims that election fraud contributed to his defeat.

Trump’s fundraising campaign comes on the eve of his first political speech since leaving the White House. He will address the activists on Sunday during the Conservative political action conference in Orlando, Florida, as he seeks to shape the party’s future and target the Republicans he considers unfaithful.
On Friday, for example, he backed Max Miller’s biggest challenge against Ohio GOP representative Anthony Gonzalez, who voted last month to accuse Trump.
