Trump commits to “orderly transition” in a statement after the mob stormed the Capitol

President Donald Trump committed himself to an “orderly transition” of power Thursday minutes after Congress confirmed President Joe Biden’s election in the election.

The notable turnaround came hours after a violent crowd of the president’s supporters stormed the US Capitol.

“Although I completely disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts confirm me, there will be an orderly transition on January 20,” according to a statement attributed to Trump and released by the White House.

Trump has repeatedly and unfoundedly claimed that the election was stolen or that there was widespread fraud, for which there was no evidence.

After the assault on the Capitol, he also had increasing pressure from previous fans to accept that Biden had won.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, RS.C., an ally of Trump, said after the events at the Capitol that Biden was legally elected and that it was time to accept it.

“Count me out. Enough is enough,” he said. “We have to end it.”
