President Trump’s legal team on Tuesday sent a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court challenging the challenge of an earlier decision by the Wisconsin Supreme Court to refute its allegations of irregularities in the use of absentee ballots during the 2020 presidential campaign.
Trump campaign lawyer Rudy Giuliani filed the petition for a Writ of Certiorari weeks after the Wisconsin Supreme Court voted 4-3 to dismiss a Trump campaign lawsuit that sought to overturn the state’s election results. The president’s legal team has asked the Supreme Court to convene a speedy review of the case before Congress to confirm the outcome of the January 6 election.
WISCONSIN SUPERME COURT TOSSES TRUMP CAMPAIGN
“Unfortunately, the Wisconsin Supreme Court in their 4-3 decision refused to address the merits of our claim. This ‘Cert Petition’ asks them to address our claims, which, if allowed, will be the result of the election. in Wisconsin, “Trump campaign attorney Jim Troupis said in a statement.” Three members of the Supreme Court of Wisconsin, including the Chief Justice, agree with many of the president’s claims in written disagreements from the order of that court. on December 14. “
The Wisconsin Supreme Court dismissed the Trump campaign’s lawsuit on Dec. 14 just hours before President-elect Joe Biden received the state’s 10 electoral votes. Trump attorneys have tried to invalidate more than 221,000 ballots in Milwaukee and Dane counties, both of which are Democratic strongholds. Biden won Wisconsin by about 20,600 votes.
The court ruled that three of the four claims included in the Trump lawsuit were filed too late in the election process to be considered. It has been established that a fourth claim is without merit.
The Trump campaign said the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling effectively “allowed more than 50,000 illegal ballots in violation of Article II of the U.S. Constitution and Wisconsin law.”
The petition takes note of several cases in which the Trump campaign illegally claimed, including more than 28,000 votes counted from people “who could not provide identification by abusing the state’s ‘unlimited status’ and about 6,000 absentee ballots which were counted despite an alleged lack of required information on their envelopes.
