Trump calls Georgia runoff ‘invalid’ as polls tighten, 3 million vote early

With a record number of voters voting early in Georgia, President Donald Trump attacked the Senate’s election process in Peach State, calling it ‘illegal and invalid’.

Trump will appear at a rally in Dalton on Monday to give his support to GOP candidates, Senator Kelly Loeffler and Senator David Perdue, who are taking on Democratic challengers Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, respectively.

The end of Tuesday will determine the balance of power of the US Senate and both parties spend hundreds of millions of dollars and use heavy casualties to move voters.

But on Friday night, Trump questioned the legitimacy of the Georgia votes and voiced criticism of the dual decision reached in March that sets standards for assessing valid signatures on absent ballots.

To begin with the “massive corruption” he claims took place in the general election in November, he tweeted that it ‘should be noted that the legislators were in no way responsible for the massive changes to the voting process, rules and regulations, many made quickly before the election. ‘

“Therefore, the entire state election is not legal or constitutional. In addition, the consent decision in Georgia is unconstitutional, and the 2020 presidential election is therefore illegal and invalid, and it will include the two current senatorial elections,” he added.

The consent decision allows voters to identify ballot papers with an alleged mismatch between their signature and their signature that election officials have on file. Trump argued that the consent decision was illegal because the decision did not involve state legislators.

Trump also reviewed unfounded claims of voter fraud in the Wisconsin battlefield, which went after the election of President Joe Biden in the thread that led to a health warning from Twitter that allegations of election fraud are being disputed. Newsweek contacted Perdue and Loeffler for comment.

Trump’s allegations come because the record numbers of voters have already cast their votes. According to Georgia Votes, 3,001,017 people voted after the last day of the three-week advance in person’s voting period.

It is about 600,000 lower than at the same point in the 2020 general election, but breaks the record for a runoff in Georgia, ABC News reports. Of those who voted before the start of Tuesday, 928,069 were absent by mail and 2,072,948 voted earlier.

About 115,389 people who did not vote in the general election have already cast their ballots for the run-up. Perdue’s lead over Ossoff in November was 88,098 votes.

The races are close according to polls. On January 1, polls suggested Ossoff (48.5 percent) was ahead of Perdue (47.7 percent). The candidates swapped the lead over the past few weeks, with Perdue nail-biting on Dec. 29, according to RealClearPolitics polls.

Meanwhile, Warnock leads 49.2 percent ahead of Loeffler, which is at 47.4 percent. The last time Loeffler was in front was on December 21st.

In addition to Trump’s appearance on Monday, Vice President Mike Pence will make a turn in Milner, while Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and President-elect Joe Biden will fight Sunday with Warnock and Ossoff in Savannah and Monday in Atlanta.
