Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., Described the impending trial of former President Donald Trump as a ‘partisan joke’ and said that Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer should also be prosecuted according to Senate logic.
“If we’re going to criminalize speech and everyone who’s going to fight to hear your voices’, then I really mean we should accuse Chuck Schumer,” Paul told Fox News Sunday. “He went to the Supreme Court, stood before the Supreme Court and specifically said, ‘Hey Gorsuch, Hey Kavanaugh, you have unleashed a whirlwind. And you are going to pay the price.’

“This inflammatory wording, this violent rhetoric of Chuck Schumer was so bad that the chief justice, who rarely says anything in public, immediately said that this kind of language was dangerous while a mob tried to invade the Supreme Court,” Paul continued.
Paul pointed out that he opposed the “wrong idea of voting to overthrow the election with Congress or the vice president”, which Trump insisted on. Still, he said there was a “zero” chance Trump would be convicted by the Senate.

“People will have to judge for themselves … are we possibly going to prosecute people for political speech?” Said Paul.
Paul also said that Supreme Court Justice John Roberts’ decision not to preside over the Senate prosecution hearing underscores this.
“Judge Roberts said no, I’m not coming across the street because you’re blaming the president,” Paul said. “It was a strong sign for all of us that it would be a biased trial with a Democrat in the chair, who has already voted in favor.”
Senator Patrick Leahy, the president of the Senate, is expected to preside over the trial sooner.

“According to the Constitution, the Chief Justice is chairing a sitting president. So it was up to John Roberts whether he wanted to chair a president who is no longer sitting, Trump, and he does not want to do that,” Schumer said in January. .
