Trinity Rodman, daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman, is No. 2 in NWSL Draft

Trinity Rodman, the daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman, was selected by Washington Spirit on Wednesday as second place in the National Women’s Soccer League Draft.

Rodman, 18, is a star on the American youth team. She helped the U.S. win the CONCACAF Under-20 women’s title in 2020 and scored nine goals in the tournament, including two in the final. She was planning to play for the state of Washington at university, but the season was moved to spring due to the pandemic.

She decided to get her pro career underway.

Rodman said she, after being drafted, wants to cut out her own legacy and be known as someone other than a daughter of Dennis Rodman’s.

“[Being a professional] was my dream forever, so it’s unreal to me, “she said via Goal.com. The one thing I’m most excited about is just learning from this. [At] on the professional level you will really learn more than you are going to do well, but I am excited to learn.

“With my dad I’m just as grateful, of course he was an amazing athlete and I got the genes from him, but I’m excited to be known as Trinity Rodman and not just the daughter of Dennis Rodman. That’s why I’m excited about my own path and getting better during this journey. ‘
