TRINIDAD, Colo. (KKTV) – A Colorado man was seriously injured after a package exploded in a parking lot early Monday morning.
According to Trinidad police, the victim and a friend were at the Trinidad apartments in the 300 block of East North Avenue at about 1 a.m. when they saw a parcel lying in an empty parking lot.
‘[The victim] pick up the package and walk with it. [The victim] then opened the package and there was an explosion, ‘police wrote in a news release.
The victim was rushed to hospital and has since been transferred via Flight for Life to another hospital in Colorado. He was identified as Diego Hurtado. The man with Hurtado was not hurt.
The incident is now being investigated by the Trinidad police, the Pueblo police station and the ATF. Anyone with incident information is asked to call TPD at 719-846-4441, ATF at 1-888-ATF-BOMB or email [email protected].
A separate but similar incident at the Trinidad Walmart on February 5 is also being investigated. A package was discovered in the parking lot of the store; police would not elaborate further.
