The San Francisco 49ers’ offensive tackle, Trent Williams, is just a week away from possibly becoming a free agent. Ideally, he hopes this does not happen. He would like to stay with the Niners, who traded for him during the draft last season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers want to keep him in the rankings. Fans want to see Williams stay, too. The veteran offensive linebacker quickly became a fan and media favorite.

Williams joined teammate Richard Sherman, who would also become a free agent The Cris Collinsworth Podcast this week. Sherman predicts Williams will stay in 2021.

“I let him stay in San Francisco for The Faithful,” Sherman said. “I think he’s staying in San Francisco. I think he’s making you happy for another five (or six) years and getting his gold jacket and deciding if he wants it in Washington or San Francisco.”

Of course, players are not inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame associated with one particular team. They are recorded as players and are associated with every team they have played with during their pro career.

As for Sherman’s prediction, Williams did not sound like he had a problem with it.

“This is not a bad thing,” the eight-time Pro Bowl suit replied. “It’s not bad. You all bark at the right tree. ‘

What about Sherman, who almost certainly will not return to the 49ers? What landing spot does Williams predict for his defensive teammate?

“I’m not going to lie, man. Rich is one of my favorite teammates I’ve ever had,” Williams said. “… I know that any locker room that is going to get him will be blessed. I would like to stay with him in the locker room because I know what he is adding to a team.

‘I think it’s going to be a win-now team, which I feel like we were in a win-now team. Rich, he’s so smart. He can do anywhere. He can fit in any locker room. He can merge with any crowd. So I do not really see any limitations with him. ‘

Williams hesitated to name potential landing sites, but eventually pointed out a few options.

“I still hope he’s back in whatever locker room I’m in,” Williams said. “… I can see [the Kansas City Chiefs], go in there and help that defensive backfield. … I would like to see him somewhere where the weather is nice, get a good salary, and the tax does not beat him.

“[The Las Vegas Raiders] sounds like a good team. I think the Indianapolis Colts. The AFC, there are a lot of good places there. As long as he does not end up in Seattle again. … I definitely do not want to see him twice a year when I’m in San Francisco. ‘
