The free agent of Trent Williams is expected to test the market, rather than sign with the 49ers again before the NFL’s legal negotiation window opens on March 15. the Cris Collinsworth Podcast with Richard Sherman that he leans to stay in the Bay.
He did not announce his return directly, but his reaction when Sherman made a prediction for Williams’ impending free agency gave some hope that the left-wing pack would be in San Francisco.
“I have San Francisco,” Sherman said. ‘I let him stay in San Francisco for the faithful. I think he lives in San Francisco. I think he makes you happy for another 5-6 years and gets his gold jacket and then decides if he wants it in Washington or San Francisco. ‘
Williams’ reaction after host George Chahrouri and Sherman both expressed their prediction that Williams would return to the 49ers:
“It’s not bad. This is not bad. You bark up the real tree. ”
The 49ers acquired Williams from Washington last year for a fifth-round 2020 draft and a third-round pick in the 2021 draft. It looks like he has indicated after the season that he wants to stay with the 49ers, but also said he will explore the market to find out what he is worth in the last big payday of his 32-year-old.
It will require Williams to make no explanatory statements in any way with free agent negotiations around the corner, and a comment on a podcast is far from binding. For the time being, however, the answer was good news for the 49ers. They may just have to wait until the free agency starts unofficially on March 15 to get a real answer on Williams’ future.
