Trapped Chinese gold miners send letter asking for medicine

A dozen Chinese gold miners trapped thousands of feet underground for more than a week have reportedly sent an urgent remark saying four were injured.

“We urgently need medicine, painkillers, medical adhesive tape, external anti-inflammatory drugs, and three people have high blood pressure,” reads the note, reports Agence France-Presse.

According to the Xinhua Nerws Agency, it was unknown if ten other miners were still alive.

Twenty-two workers were trapped about 2,000 feet below the surface after an explosion eight days ago near the city of Qixia in eastern Shandong province.

After days without any signs of life, rescuers heard knocking noises Sunday afternoon as they drilled through the shaft of the mine.

“We wish the rescuers would not stop so that we can still have hope. Thank you, ”reads the crumpled, water-stained note written in pencil.

The author asked rescuers to send medication out of his car and warned that there was a large amount of water where the miners were trapped.

“I saw the note while watching the morning news and burst into tears,” one Weibo user wrote. “I hope they will save the trapped workers as soon as possible.”

Drivers of the operation were detained after failing to report the accident for more than a day.

The mine was under construction at the time of the explosion, which took place on 10 January.
