Traeger grain grills and smokers are at the center of many suburban roasting pans, and those lucky enough to be able to take care of these machines are considered gods under the breastplate. Now, after years in which you could only check and adjust your schedule via your phone, it is now Traeger launches an Apple Watch app for braais on the go.

Traeger’s grids are wifi – enabled, which means you can connect them remotely. The phone app currently offers recipes and notifications that tell you when the meat is reaching a certain temperature. You can also change the heat and even activate the smoker remotely.

The Apple Watch app is similar but simpler. With the app you can change the temperature, check the probe temperature and switch on the warm-up mode as soon as your meal is ready. The video below shows one idyllic example in which the fryer picks meat on the grill and then goes to show snow while the grill is comfortably viewed from his wrist.

Apple Watch apps are not new, but these are particularly spicy in that, while not technically impressive, they put control over your smoked pork shoulder right on your wrist. If it’s not the future, I do not know what it is.
