A union representing Walt Disney World employees wants members vaccinated.
Unite Here 362, representing thousands of Disney World workers, is asking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to include hospitality workers on the state’s list of essential employees eligible for the coronavirus vaccine.
On Thursday, the union a statement posted on Twitter and said: “If the hospitality industry is essential to our economy, then so are we as workers!”

“Whether it’s cooking or serving food at airports, cleaning toilets in the theme parks, or dropping off guests at and outside the attractions, these are just a few duties that hospitality workers expose to COVID-19,” the statement read. partial. “In many cases, hospitality workers come in contact with thousands of tourists daily.”
The union further said that because DeSantis said the tourism industry ‘is essential to the Florida economy’, the people working in the industry should also be considered essential.

“While Disney and other employers have health and safety practices in place, there is no protection by the state of Florida,” the union said in part. “The least the state of Florida can do is to qualify hospitality workers for vaccine.”

“We need Governor DeSantis to engage and ensure that the qualification is extended to all hospitality workers in Central Florida, regardless of their state,” the union later added.

Unite Lord 362 also has a news conference Friday called on DeSantis to allow hospitality workers to get the vaccine. Members hold up signs that say, “We need our shots and we need them now,” and “Do not throw our shots away.”
DeSantis ‘office did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ request for comment.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Florida will begin allowing people in the state who are 50 and older to start the vaccine starting Monday.
The newspaper reports that the Orange County Convention Center on Monday will enable people 40 and older to receive the vaccine. According to the Sentinel, firefighters, teachers and law enforcement officers can also get the vaccine, but not hospitality workers.
And although much of Disney World is located in Orange County, parts of the resort are also in Osceola County.
Disney World did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Unite Here 362 represents approximately 8,000 Disney World workers who are rhythm masters, guardians and vacation planners, according to the union website.
Disney World reopened in July after being shut down for several months due to the pandemic.
When the park reopened, it introduced new health and safety measures, including mandatory masks and social distance, temperature controls and advance bookings.
