Toyota’s first electric vehicle will hit the road in 2022

In February, Toyota announced that by 2021 they would debut three electric vehicles in the US. Of the trio, two said it would be fully electric models, while one would be a plug-in hybrid. The carmaker has now set out a broader EV vision because it wants to become carbon neutral by 2050. Toyota announced today that by the end of 2025, it will sell approximately 70 different electric cars worldwide, including 15 new fully electric models.

About half of it falls under the company’s new Beyond Zero brand, with the bZ4X SUV Toyota launched today starting business. Although this is currently just a concept, Toyota plans to get it ready in a car soon after production is underway in Japan and China. The company says it “hopes” to start selling the bZ4X by mid-2022, with details of the US version to be released later.

Toyota did not share much more information about the bZ4X. We know that it was developed with Subaru and that it will have four-wheel drive and can use Toyota’s new battery-powered e-TNGA power station. It also includes a long-distance frame for a spacious interior. In addition to the bZ4X and other Beyond Zero cars, the company also plans to electrify its pickups. This is something that other truck manufacturers like Ford are also planning to do.
