In the early 2000s, the Toyota Prius was received with the excitement that Tesla models now see. There were waiting lists if you wanted to order one. Celebrities like Ryan Gosling, Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz have been remarkably taken down by paparazzi who run them. Other car manufacturers have been criticized for not making more forward-thinking hybrid models like these. Nearly twenty years after the second-generation Prius became a sensation, it is Toyota that is lagging behind in creating fully electric cars and sports utility vehicles, while others are rapidly competing with Tesla.
The BZ4X, which is being developed with Subaru, is one of the 15 fully electric vehicles Toyota wants to offer worldwide by 2025, the company said. There will be at least one electric pickup in the range, and seven of these electric vehicles will be sold under a new BZ sub-brand for electric vehicles. BZ stands for Beyond Zero.
The Japanese automaker has said it plans to offer a total of 70 “electrified” models by 2025, including plug-in hybrids, conventional hybrids and hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Toyota will manufacture the BZ4X in China and sell it worldwide by mid-2022. The company did not offer any details about the vehicle, such as the expected price or driving distance at full cost. It would be Toyota’s first electric sports utility vehicle since the Toyota Rav4 EV, which is no longer in production in 2014. The most recent version of the electric sport utility vehicle, which was only sold in some parts of California and for a few years, was a modified version. of the Rav4 SUV equipped with batteries and electric motors supplied by Tesla.
