In their information sheet COVID-19, CDC as well as the WHO warn people not to touch their faces with their hands, as the virus can survive on surfaces. The use of touchless technologies has increased as a result, and the Singaporean studio Stuck Design provides a world in which passengers do not even have to press the elevator buttons with their fingers to get where they need to go. The studio’s Kinetic Touchless technology can mimic the movement of your fingers and recreate the tactile response of the push of a button.
It works by using motion as an input method so that it does not require direct contact and can mimic the motion at a distance. According to the studio, the type of touchless interaction that the technology offers can also be applied to different gestures. This means that buttons that use the technology can lower inward or move outward when the user makes a pushing or pulling motion. A row of buttons can also follow the user’s finger as it slides.
