Tottenham player ratings: Harry Kane and Joe Rodon impress, Davinson Sanchez weak against Newcastle

Hugo Lloris

Made a great double save to deny Dwight Gayle in the first half, with his first save an excellent goalkeeper on the verge of stopping his head from being in the bottom corner. 7

Japhet Tanganga

He started at fullback again after appearing at Villa Park for the last time and unfortunately played a role in Newcastle’s starting line-up with a weak pass as he tried to play from behind. Lucky to get away with one in the second half after Joelinton found himself in space in the back position, only to shoot wide. Not exactly a convincing performance to follow up on his previous performance. 5

Davinson Sanchez

Poor early header created an opening for Joelinton and was a few times sloppy with his game, including his clearance that ended with the Newcastle forward scoring. Played well recently but was far from his best today. 5

Joe Rodon

Made some excellent blocks and looked good after a very good international break for Wales. Really good outing for the youngster because he made a case for a regular starting spot for his driver. 7

Sergio Reguilon

Always looked forward to coming forward at every opportunity after being fit enough to start declaring. Could not win his header on the back post, which caused Joe Willock to equalize. 5

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

He really should have done better with a weak attempt from a tackle on the edge of his own half that caused Joelinton to score the opening header. Some important blocks, but not at its best in St James’ Park. 6

Tanguy Ndombele

Made some good runs and got some help for Harry Kane’s second afternoon. Another excellent pass made the attacker almost complete his hat trick, but he was refused. One of the better performers on a day to forget for the team. 7

Giovani Lo Celso

Played a role in Kane’s first goal as his pass resulted in the England captain breaking down after the ball from him. Some good stuff, but sometimes bad game too. 6

Lucas Moura

Left is used again and Spurs play 4-4-2, but just could not influence the game as in previous weeks, despite a brilliant ten minute opening. The change in formation allowed him to position himself in the second half, but he was just over 15 minutes on before he was replaced. 5

Carlos Vinicius

Mourinho gave another start and immediately made an impact when he won the ball from Emil Krafth, but his cross could not find his strike partner. Things just did not work out for him and he made room with the rest time when the boss changed things. 5

Harry Kane

Going close to an early starting pairing after a positive run in the box and getting his goal with a simple finish seconds after Newcastle opened the scoring. He does not have to wait long for his second as he kicks the ball into the bottom corner. He had the chance to complete his hat-trick with 20 minutes left, but Martin Dubravka saved well. Star man again. 8
