Tornado hits North Carolina, leaving some residents trapped

A tornado in southeastern Brunswick County in North Carolina has trapped or missing some residents and damaged homes.

The tornado struck just after midnight on Tuesday, damaging homes, tearing down their foundations and cutting trees in half, WWAY-TV reported.

According to the National Weather Service, a tornado clock was issued for parts of North Carolina until 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Brunswick County Emergency Management said people were trapped in homes. The Wilmington Fire Department tweeted that it would send teams to help search for people missing after the tornado.

Some power cords was also completed. Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation said thousands of people had lost electricity.
