Austin (Texas) Westlake Top247 quarter Cade Klubnik tells 247Sports he committed to Clemson. He chose to play for Dabo Swinney and his staff over his other finalists in Florida, North Carolina and Texas.
The four-star Klubnik becomes commitment number 4 for the ACC power station early in the cycle.
“It felt like home from the beginning.” Klubnik said. “I feel like the Clemson culture and the family there that will make me available.”
What I’m talking about Klubnik was definitely pretty good on the field last fall. As a junior, the 6-foot-2 1/2, 186-pound signalman threw for 3,495 yards and 35 touchdowns with another 583 running yards and another 15 scores to lead his team to a state championship (where he MVP the game was) in the Lone Star State’s largest class. He is named by the Top247 as the country’s no. 5 pro-style compasses and overall no. 74.
Swinney and quarterback Brandon Streeter Klubnik recruited for a while, it increased this past Friday with an offer.
“I told them on the spot that I wanted to come and play,” said Klubnik. “We’ve built a good relationship over the last year.”
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic that plagued the NCAA in a dead period, Klubnik got the chance to visit Clemson during the fall for the Tigers victory over Syracuse.
“I think the people,” he said of what stood out about Clemson. “They make you feel at home. There is a different feeling there than I felt anywhere else and I could not meet the people there like the coaches. I had with them that they never changed character.
‘The consistency of success, I love the coaches, to be able to play among such staff members, is what I have always been looking for, but the fact that the incredible people are too, that’s what really stood out. I love their campus and everything about it. ”
Klubnik broke out as a junior after playing in a reserve role as a sophomore. Aside from the aforementioned programs, there have been offers such as Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU, Arizona State, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Penn State and Washington.
“Good height and lean build with an above-average framework,” wrote 247Sport’s national analyst Gabe Brooks in his evaluation. “Highly productive QB vs. TXHSFB 6A competition. Throw with an overhead unlock and usually stay on top of the ball. Comfortable in the bag and out of time. Qualified as an improvisation QB. Demonstrates throw-at-the-loop ability on multiple levels. Pro-style QB but mobile enough to keep defense honest. Shows good speed in the middle of the field, especially if footwork is constant. Go to university with strong competition against high school level. Competitor participating in track and field (400 meters, long jump, triple jump). The delivery needs to be canceled and will need to make the release faster. Can transfer the velocity of the waist more consistently to the cast of the perimeter. Sometimes it takes unnecessary chances, but gathers the sterling INT rate as a smaller one (one in every 117 plus attempts). One of the best QBs in Texas that looks like another strong class on the rankings. High-level projects with long-term NFL drafting potential. ‘
Klubnik joins a Clemson class that includes all four stars in attacking lineouts Collin Sadler and Blake Miller with recipient Adam Randall. This move moves up to number 17 in the 247Sports Composite rankings. The Tigers have finished in the top five in the last two cycles and Klubnik is pushing them in that direction again.
