Top transfer leaning towards Tar Heels?

Is the Tar Heels the favorite for this top transfer prospect, as its commitment date is near?

Just three days after receiving an official offer from the UNC basketball program, Creighton forward Christian Bishop announced the top three schools after which he is considering switching. Could the recent offer of Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels influence Bishop’s upcoming decision?

On his Instagram story Thursday night, Bishop included the Tar Heels as one of his three finalists. North Carolina joins Kansas and Texas as the remaining schools.

Recently, the Keeping It Heel team discussed whether or not to pursue the Tar Heels Bishop. When Bishop entered the transfer portal, the Tar Heels were still seeking the replacement of Roy Williams as head coach, so there was some uncertainty as to whether the new head coach would be interested. Now, with Hubert Davis at the helm, it seems the tar heels have everything in their power to land Bishop.

Bishop, who is mostly used as an undersized center, thrived in the role for the Blue Jays, and could be used on wing as well as lower down for a Tar Heels team that could desperately use the depth of the forecourt.

With his recruitment to just three candidates, how good is the Tar Heels’ chance of getting a commitment from Bishop this weekend? At this point, you should think the odds are pretty good for Hubert Davis and Tar Heels.

To begin with, it is good that Bishop’s recruitment lingered until the Tar Heels figured out their coaching situation. With the current state of the NCAA transfer portal, some players are moving fast off the board (look at Garrison Brooks, who only took five days to find a new home).

In addition, Bishop quickly nominated his finalists after receiving his offer from North Carolina. Not even 72 hours later did Bishop announce that he would make a decision this coming weekend. Did the possibility of playing in Chapel Hill entice him enough to make the transfer decision quickly?

With the current state of the Tar Heels list, there is a possibility that Bishop could be immediately cast in an important role. He would definitely be able to see the opening minutes and will undoubtedly be a factor on the wing and down. His ability to bounce back could be a major addition to the Tar Heels as they will replace the production of guys like Brooks, Day’Ron Sharpe and Walker Kessler.

If he is immediately looking for a place to make a big impact, North Carolina offers him the best opportunity.

From what we know, there’s a big possibility that Bishop will land in Chapel Hill. There are no predictions from Crystal Ball at the moment, but considering the recent developments, you should think that the Tar Heels may have an advantage in its recruitment.
