‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘Mission: Impossible 7’, release dates among several films postponed by Paramount

Fans eagerly awaiting the sequel to the 1986 classic ‘Top Gun’ starring Tom Cruise will have to wait even longer, as it was among a slew of other films that delayed Paramount.

The release dates for ten Paramount projects have been moved. Three of them play Cruise, and the release date of just one movie has been moved.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was released on July 19 on a November 19 release date. The new date of the film takes the place of the release of ‘Mission: Impossible 7’, another action-packed film starring Cruise. “Mission: Impossible 7” has now been moved to May 27, 2022, reports Variety.

“Mission: Impossible 8” also now jumps to 7 July 2023 from its previous date on 4 November 2022.

‘Snake Eyes’, a ‘GI Joe’ spin-off starring Henry Golding, was the only film to receive an earlier date. The release increased by three months, from October 22 to July 23.

“Dungeons & Dragons”, starring Chris Pine, “Bridgerton” alum RegĂ©-Jean Page and Hugh Grant, has been delayed for almost an entire year, from May 27, 2022 to March 3, 2023.

Paramount also attached dates to four films not previously scheduled for release. These include the next “Star Trek” movie on June 9, 2023, a Bee Gees movie (currently untitled) on November 4, 2022 and “The Shrinking of Treehorn” which appears on November 10, 2023.

The shifts in the releases come as movie theaters across the country begin to reopen after it closed due to the ongoing pandemic in the coronavirus. The film industry as a whole has been rocked since the global health crisis escalated last March.

This is not the first time Paramount has pushed back their lead due to the ongoing pandemic. “Top Gun: Maverick” was originally launched last year, but the company announced in July last year that it would move to 2021. The only time will be learning whether the latest dates will apply.
