Top Gun: Maverick is the latest big hit to skip the summer movie season

Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the classic ’80s Bobaas with Tom Cruise in the lead role, according to premiere will now premiere on November 19 Deadline. It was previously scheduled to open on July 2 – which itself was a delay from December 23, 2020.

Maverick’s delay is the latest shift in this summer’s film magazine, which, like last summer, was significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney slows down Black widow from the release date of May to July 9 and also prefers to make it available the same day as a $ 30 Disney Plus Premier Access title. The company also made Pixar’s Luca an exclusive Disney Plus and said Cruella will be a Disney Plus Premier Access release when it hits theaters on May 28th. MGM slows down No time to die, the next James Bond movie, from April 2 to October 8.

Universal Pictures also moved the expected F9 from Memorial Day weekend to June 25, which would make it the first major trailer to be released exclusively in theaters since Christopher Nolan Tenet last fall – if we assume that Universal does not follow its competition and does not delay the upcoming Fast and furious again film.

The Bobaas the sequel’s delay has consequences for the rest of Paramount Pictures’ film series. Two other films starring Cruise: Mission: Impossible 7 will now debut on May 27, 2022, instead of this November, while Mission: Impossible 8 moved according to a release from November 2022 to July 7, 2023 Deadline. Dungeons and Dragons was also delayed and moves to a debut on March 3, 2023. Paramount’s announcement also referred to an as yet unknown Star Trek movie – what io9 reports is a secret project, produced by JJ Abrams – which will hit theaters on June 9, 2023.
