Tom’s Reveals It’s Developing a Tuned GR Yaris

Well-known Japanese tuning house and racing team Tom’s has revealed that he has started developing his own version of the Toyota GR Yaris.

Although the GR Yaris is one of the most interesting cars released in recent years, there is always room for improvement. Even with something as obvious as the GR Yaris – which, let’s not forget, has a completely personal bakkie rich in composite materials, simply because Toyota wants to make a killer rally car out of it – the carmakers are certainly safe emission standards.

Voters do not have to stick to these limits and can push things much further, as this Tom’s GR Yaris proves. Tom actually revealed the car during a live stream in which it also featured the now-restored # 36 Toyota Castrol Supra, as you can see below:

Of course, we can see the obvious visual changes to the GR Yaris from the outside. There’s a brand new front end, with new canard moldings, new splitter treatment and larger openings for both the intercooler and what brake channels look like.

At the rear, there’s also all-new bodywork, including a large, rally-style rear wing and new channels. You also see new silk dresses to complete the visual effect. The wheels are 18-inch Rays G025 items, replacing the standard 18-inch cast units or the optional 18-inch forged BBS wheels.

There are some hints that there is a lot more going on as well. For example, the Tom’s GR Yaris now boasts six-pot monoblock brake pads from Endless, rather than the usual four-pots. The car also had a slight fall, thanks to a Luck V1-DFA damper, which has a 24-way damping power adjustment.

As for more power, it’s now mastered, but we doubt the new mid-range output and a huge intercooler are right there. Other tuners have already started with the 257 hp (268 hp in Japan), the 1.6-liter three-cylinder, which pushes it over 300 hp.

Tom’s has not yet finished developing the car, but should be ready to show the final product later in the year. Since he also enlisted the help of Toyota GR World Rally Team driver Takamoto Katsuta to help, this should be a pretty impressive thing.
