Spider-Man: No Way Home has just been officially announced as the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise co-produced by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. There was a time when the studios parted and it seemed Tom Holland The webslinger can be done, but luckily they solved things. However, the actor confirmed this Spider-Man: No Way Home will be the last film under his contract with Sony / Marvel, but that does not mean he’s done with wall scratching.
Collider recently caught up with Tom Holland in collaboration with the upcoming release of Cherry on Apple TV +. The conversation finally turns to the new Spider man Holland, which is confirmed to be the last film in his contract. But that does not necessarily mean he walks away from the role. The actor said:
‘[Spider-Man 3] would be my last one [under contract]. So, I’ve always told them if they want me back, I’ll be there in a heartbeat. I loved being a part of this wonderful world every minute. It changed my life for the better, I’m so happy to be here. If they want me back, I’ll be there. If they do not, I would walk a very, very happy person to the sunset because it was a wonderful trip. ‘
However, it is probably not completely accurate. When Sony and Marvel worked through their releases and used a new deal to share Spider-Man for a third film in the franchise, the deal also included an appearance in a future Marvel Studios movie. Based on the rumors we heard Spider-Man: No Way Home to make the Multiverse a big part of Peter Parker’s story, it’s likely to happen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As Tom Holland says No Way Home is his last Spider man under his current contract, he probably means in himself for the Spidey franchise.
Although Tom Holland will be eager to continue playing Spider-Man in the future, we must not forget that the agreement for Marvel and Sony to share Spider-Man has almost fallen apart. Will it then be that easy to negotiate a new contract that enables Tom Holland to continue playing with Peter Parker and his web head alter ego in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It seems that Holland thinks like this:
‘As I understand it, the agreement between the two studios has already taken place. I do not think they’ll run into the same problems they did … was it Spider-Man 2? Far from home came out and then the whole thing happened between Sony and Marvel. I think the two studios got it right, and I do not think it will be a problem in the future. That said, I’m just the actor and I was part of a few calls during the process. But I think they like working with each other, I think they have found a way that can be beneficial to both studios, and I’m just like a child between two parents during an argument. ”
There’s also a chance that Tom Holland could play Spider-Man outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some have suggested that the introduction of the Multiverse would allow Peter Parker to leave the MCU and enter the Spider-Man universe produced by Sony Pictures, which includes Poison and the coming Morbius. This would be the perfect opportunity to have two different universes with the same Spider-Man and still have him appear in one of the two.
Although Tom Holland is happy to continue playing Spider-Man, you should not expect the adventure of the web slinger to be a quick sequel. No Way Home. The actor has been so busy since the making Spider-Man: Homecoming that he is ready to take a bit off the stage. Holland recently told USA Today:
‘I’m going to take a breather and travel the world full. This is the first time since I signed up [Spider-Man: Homecoming] that I do not have a contract with anyone. I can go skiing because it’s something I am not really allowed to do, because it’s a dangerous sport, of course. I have been very careful over the years and that is why I became obsessed with golf because it is the only sport I can play without getting injured. ”
This is something fans usually do not think about when actors are part of these big franchises. The studios invest in these stars to play characters that generate a lot of revenue, and therefore they need to be safe in everything they do to protect the franchise from falling by the wayside. But it’s good to hear that Holland can break a bit. Hopefully Marvel and / or Sony will be ready to launch Spider-Man again when it’s ready to go again.
