It has been almost two years since the arrival of Avengers: Endgame, the film in which writers and directors Joe and Anthony Russo land – to enjoy general praise – the end of a story that they and countless others spent the best part of a decade, countless hours of human creativity, and huge, bubbling kettles of money tell. It was, by any measure, a career achievement, which is probably a little worrying if you still want to know that you want a career.
Now, after a brief, extremely explanatory break, the Russians are back with Apple TV + releases the first teaser today for their first film since Endgame wrapped up, an adaptation of Nico Walker’s crime novel of 2018 Cherry. But while many of the features of the Russo Style seem to be absent in the short (strangely truncated) cut – with a magic glove or important rock in sight – they do have one familiar face at hand. (And a slightly lesser known hairstyle.)
Yep, it’s Tom Holland as a young man enlisting in the U.S. Army, a career choice that will likely keep him in good health and well-being – wait, no, alas, we just have a look at the Wikipedia summary taken from the book, and it certainly would not. In any case, it’s interesting to always see Holland play against the scene (like last year with Antonio Campos’ The devil all the time.) From the teasing, it’s a bit difficult to determine the tone of the film, but we’ll probably see more as the film’s release date approaches 2021.
