Tom Hanks reveals he shaved his head for a role, and he’s not excited

The 64-year-old actor revealed (very briefly) his new appearance during an appearance Tuesday in The Graham Norton Show.

Hanks wore a baseball cap for the most part. At one point, he explained that he was currently filming Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming biography of Elvis Presley in Australia, in which he plays Presley’s manager Colonel Tom Parker.

“Let me show you the terrible haircut I must have to portray Colonel Tom Parker,” Hanks said as he did everything he could to hide his unfortunate haircut. “Look at this awful … Do you see it? Look at the thing?”

Then Hanks dived for about a second and brought his hairless scalp into sight. If you cut it, you may have missed it.

But judging by the cries the audience heard, everyone saw.

“I just scared the kids. I want to apologize,” Hanks said.

While the bald look at Hanks was a surprise to many of his fans, this is not the first time the actor has worn this look.

Before the coronavirus pandemic began (and before he and his wife, actress Rita Wilson, were diagnosed with the virus), Hanks was in Australia doing pre-production work for the same film.
In April, he appears from home on “Saturday Night Live” and explains what’s going on with his hair – or the lack thereof.

“Do not worry now, do not be afraid,” he told the audience. “This shaved head was just for a movie and my hair is growing back very slowly. It saves time in the shower, so I do not know maybe we should all do it, right?”
