Tom Brady’s ‘possibility’ for the Bucs, says general manager

Jason Licht knows a good thing when he sees it.

The general manager of Tampa Bay Buccaneers appeared in ‘The Rich Eisen Show’ on Tuesday and talked about the ‘possibility’ of signing Tom Brady for an extension that will last the veteran quarter longer than his two-year contract planned.

CHRIS GODWIN WANTS TO STAY AT BUCKS, BUT MUST CONSIDER EVERYTHING: ‘THE GOAL MUST BE PAID OLDLY’

“He certainly did not look like he was slowing down this year. So that’s a possibility. We’ll have to see how it goes.”

Brady, 43, has said in the past that he wants to keep playing as long as he is physically capable, and based on his performance this past season, it could be some time yet.

“It seems like he really won the Super Bowl this year. Love our organization, love our coaches, love our head coach and ownership, and we definitely love him,” Licht added. “Usually when there are two things for each other, it’s a match made in heaven, so we want to keep it going.”

The Bucs have made it clear that they want to keep the team as close as possible to the 2020 roster, which enters next season, but that means negotiations with several top players next month.

“For us now, it’s just to keep this team together,” head coach Bruce Arians said recently. “And it will probably eat up most of the salary cap if we can only keep five or six guys we want to keep in this football team and keep the closeness and accountability factor we have in the locker room.”

Among those who may be heading off at free speed are Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Brown and Leonard Fournette – all key players in the Bucs’ Super Bowl success.

“The goal, of course, is to get paid, right? But at the same time, I’m not stupid. I’m not going to put myself in a situation where I’m going to be miserable for a few years just for a few extra dollars,” Godwin said Tuesday on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’.

“I think my luck is of the utmost importance in all of this, and part of the luck is to win.”
