Tom Brady responds to retiring Julian Edelman: ‘You never lost that chip on your shoulder’

Tampa Bay Buccaneers full-back Tom Brady responded to the news of his former teammate Julian Edelman announcing his retirement on Monday by posting a photo of the two from when they were fit for the New England Patriots.

Brady addressed the message to Edelman, saying: “You have had an incredible football journey, an incredible life journey in New England, and I have no doubt that you will succeed in anything you choose to do further!”

“On the biggest stage and in the biggest moments, you always came through,” Brady wrote. “I witnessed so much of the journey and am so proud of you and how you have grown from 7th round underdog to an older 7th round underdog. The truth is you never really grew up! You never had the chip on you do not lose shoulder You never allow anyone to define you as a person or player.

“You have so many teammates who admired your work ethic and want to win, and I’m at the top of the list, because when I was down sometimes and felt sorry for myself, you were just there to pick me up,” Brady continued . . “You were as tough as could be and I love you for everything you did to make our teams as good as they could be.”

Edelman, a three-time Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl LIII MVP, posted a video on social media of himself sitting on Patillts’ home field, Gillette Stadium. In the report, the former draft pick from the seventh round said how it was the best 12 years of my life in the NFL as a Patriot.

Other former teammates and players across the league have responded to the news that Edelman is retiring.

Edelman ended his career with 620 receptions, 6,822 receptions and 41 touchdowns.

The fan-favorite receiver was actually a quarterback at the University of Kent State and was transformed into a wide range. But occasionally, New England applied its QB skills. Edelman completed 7 of 8 passes in the NFL for 179 yards, with two touchdowns and a perfect 158.3 passer rating.

Despite the throwing skills, it was catching the ball that made him such a standout – especially in the playoffs. He had 118 post-season receptions and 1444 yards in the post-season. Both stand second in the Super Bowl era behind legendary Jerry Rice.
