Tom Brady calls Tony Finau during Masters’ rain delay

Tony Finau received an unexpected call during The Masters on Saturday.

Finau, who was awaiting the 78-minute delay in the caddy home, was approached by Augusta club member Jimmy Dunne and told the 31-year-old golfer that he had someone who wanted to talk to him on FaceTime.

It was seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.

“It was a pleasant surprise,” Finau told reporters after the round.

Finau is good friends with Brady’s personal trainer Alex Guerrero, and he met Brady when he was a member of the New England Patriots. The FaceTime call was only the second time Finau had spoken to Brady, but the legendary quarterback wanted to let him know he agreed.

“He gave me a little shit about the weather and why we stopped,” Finau said. “He watched, of course, and it was cool that he followed.”

Finau settled for the shot 1-over-par 73 on Saturday, and he was in ninth place on the standings. According to the golfer, Brady told him he was playing great, and he was shocked that they stopped playing due to the rain.

“I said, ‘Maybe we’re not as tough as you. [football] guys, “Finau said.” And he said, “No, that’s not the case.” We had a good laugh about it. ‘

Last spring, Brady appeared on the track as he teamed up with Phil Mickelson to tackle Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods on “The Match: Champions for Charity” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

When he came in on Sunday, Finau was three under par and eight strokes behind Hideki Matsuyama, who was at the top of the standings.
