The BOK gets an extension of the contract.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to take a one-year contract extension that will take him through the 2022 season, according to sources informed of the situation.
Brady, who turns 44 in August, has long booked to play beyond 45. The expansion keeps him in Tampa by the possibility.
Bucs general manager Jason Licht has been discussing a potential Brady expansion since Tampa slipped away from his home field with the Lombardi Trophy in early February.
A new agreement makes sense for both parties. TB12 still has a lot left in the tank, has expressed no desire to retire and is enjoying his first season under Bruce Arians in Tampa. The Bucs eventually stabilized the QB position and wanted to keep their team leader and free-magnet internally out of the 2021 season.
The expansion of Brady has the added benefit of lowering the QB’s salary cap number this season. The signal caller would count $ 28.375 million against the salary cap in 2021. The expansion is likely to significantly reduce the hit.
Tom Pelissero, NFL Network, added that Brady did not ask for a raise after the Super Bowl victory. The expansion includes a further year than its original two-year, $ 50 million contract. The Bucs added insignificant years to the back of the deal to further lower the QB’s salary cap this season.
Brady’s new deal could help keep the Bucs free agents, such as expensive passenger Shaquil Barrett and tight end Rob Gronkowski, or attract other veterans who want to chase a Super Bowl ring with the best World Cup ever.
